Challenge:

The Applied Physics program at Stanford needed more than a visual refresh, they needed a site that could speak to multiple distinct audiences at once: prospective graduate students, current researchers, faculty, alumni, and the broader scientific community. Their existing web presence lacked the flexibility and custom functionality to serve those groups effectively, and it didn’t reflect the rigor and prestige of one of Stanford’s flagship research programs.

Solution:

Wired Moon partnered closely with the Applied Physics team to redesign and rebuild their site from the ground up in Drupal, crafting a custom digital presence that balanced visual sophistication with deep content functionality. Our work included:

• Definition and strategy to align stakeholders around goals and audience needs
• Information architecture to organize a complex site clearly and intuitively
• Custom visual design and design strategy tailored to the program’s identity
• A custom homepage banner with interactive hover functionality
• Custom content types and views throughout the site, including search and filter functionality for the Alumni directory
• Faculty self-service profiles — faculty log in via SUNet ID to manage and update their own pages
• Quality assurance across browsers, devices, and accessibility standards
